Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran organized Kisan Mela under Jal Shakti Abhiyan with the theme of Water Conservation on 21.08.2019 at its campus, Booh. More than 1200 farmers, rural youth, farm women, school and college students, etc. participated in the event. Sh. Harminder Singh Gill, MLA, Patti graced the occasion by participating as chief guest and told the farmers for judicious use of water and electricity in fields crops. Sh. Rajat Sachar, Senior Economic Advisor & Central Nodal Officer, Jal Shakti Abhiyan while addressing the farmers said that this is our prime responsibility to save water and also aware the other people around us regarding judicious use of water. He also awared the farmers regarding Water Conservation and Rainwater Harvesting, Renovation of traditional ponds, reuse of water & recharging structures, watershed development, and afforestation programs. Sh Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal, Deputy Commissioner Tarn Taran said that as per directions of Government of India, we are going to initiate a campaign regarding saving of irrigation water in all eight blocks of District Tarn Taran to aware farmers regarding judicious use of water. Pamphlets giving information related to water conservation in Agriculture, Horticulture and Livestock were also released on the occasion. Dr. H.K. Verma, Director, Extension Education, GADVASU was also present and briefed the farmers about the activities and trainings being conducted by KVK Tarn Taran from time to time related to Jal Shakti Abhiyan. The five members committee of officials of Central Government viz. Sh. Rajat Sachar, Senior Economic Advisor & Central Nodal Officer, Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, Sh. Prabhas Kumar, Director, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Sh. Umesh Kumar Director Infrastructure, Ministry of Development of North eastern Region, Sh. Sarveshwar Kumar and Sh. NK Singh Technical officer, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, constituted under Jal Shakti Abhiyan for district Tarn Taran also participated in the event. Along with ADC (D), XEN, DWSS and line departments viz. Department of Agriculture, Soil & Water Conservation, Tarn Taran were also present. Sh. HS Gill, MLA Patti, DC, Tarn Taran & Dr. H.K. Verma & Sh. Rajat Sachar also planted trees at KVK campus on this occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training) said that KVK is awaring the farmers regarding water saving in agricultural by conducting front line demonstration on their fields. Various Sarpanchs and panchs of different villages also participated in the kisan mela and gave their opinions and problems regarding water conservation strategies. The farmers present in the camp ensured that they will make judicious use of water in their fields and provide full co-operation to KVK & district administration in campaign regarding water saving. Farmers thronged KVK’s stall along with other stalls in huge number for purchasing the university books, mineral mixture, uromin licks, bypass fat, vermicompost and other materials on stall. At the end vote of thanks was proposed.
