Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran organized Field Days on Happy seeder sown wheat

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran organized Field Days on Happy seeder sown wheat in two different villages of district. First Field Day was organized on 27/02/2019 in village Allowal, Block Khadur Sahib and second on 28/02/2019 in village Booh Havelian, block Patti wherein 30 and 70 farmers participated. Dr Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director, KVK Tarn Taran told farmers about different activities of KVK and Veterinary University and encouraged farmers to take trainings from KVK and to adopt allied agricultural enterprises for better economic returns. He also thanked farmers who had sown wheat with Happy Seeder with the guidance from KVK. Dr Anil Kumar, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) told farmers about the management of the soil for better economic returns. He told that under Happy seeder sown conditions, organic carbon of the soil gets increased besides better nutrient status of the soil after few years after its adoption. Sh. Navjot Singh Brar, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) told farmers about weed management in wheat crop. In Happy Seeder sown wheat weed population gets tremendously decreased as paddy straw covers the surface soil and provides hindrance to the germinating weeds. Also with straw on surface of soil, moisture gets conserved in the soil which saves one irrigation to the crop.  Farmers at both villages agreed that initially wheat crop sown with Happy Seeder does not look nice but in later months crop stand is far better than crop sown traditionally. They said that they have not done any spray to control weeds and saved lot of money as in previous years they had done 3-4 sprays for controlling the weeds. Farmers were happy and ascertain that they will get good yield from Happy Seeder sown wheat this year. Sarpanch of both the villages thanked KVK for providing suitable solutions for managing paddy straw and assured full cooperation with the KVK team in future also.
