Dairy entrepreneurship: A money-spinning occupation
Gurpreet Singh, a progressive dairy farmer of village Kahlwan, Block Naushehra Pannuan has started dairy farming long back in 1995-96 (about 23 years back), though started commercial dairy farming in 2005. Gurpreet Singh approached KVK, Tarn Taran to learn best management practices for running his dairy farm successfully.
Gurpreet Singh slowly raised his business to 120 cows at present time with average yielding potential of 1200 litre per day. KVK provided tips and guidance for making silage as feed for his dairy animals. He is regularly using GADVASU-Area Specific Mineral Mixture, bypass fat and uromin lick at his farm.
Apart from it, a milk parlour was installed at his farm for mulching of dairy animals. For preservation and storage of milk, a chilling plant has also been set up by him. The milk is sold @ Rs 26/liter/day. He is earning handsome money from his dairy venture. He is managing his dairy farm in proper manner. For his successful journey and well management of dairy farming, he was bestowed with Chief Minister Award from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana on 15th March 2019 during State level Pashu Palan Mela.
Earlier, at his farm, total milk production was around 1100 liter/day and level of daily milk production got increased to 1400 liter/day after receiving guidance from KVK, Tarn Taran.
