Krishi Vigyan Kendra, GADVASU, Booh, Tarn Taran organized District Level Camp on Crop Residue Management under a project on “Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization and Mchinery for In- situ Management of Crop Residue”cum Animal Welfare and Treatment camp at village Mari Gohr Singh, block Bhikhwind, District Tarn Taran. Approximately 120 farmers attended above programme from different villages. More than thirty animals were treated on the spot by team of experts from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran. Surgery was performed and animals were treated for gynaecology problems. Forty animals were diagnosed for different diseases and treatment was advised on the spot. Dr.Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training) told the farmers to keep their farm animal healthy by having proper scientific knowledge about livestock farming. He also told about the various products such as mineral mixture, uromin lick, bypass fat, oral magnet, milk testing kit etc. developed by the university. Dr Kumar stressed the importance of In-situ paddy straw management among the farmers and he said that Central Government has announced a subsidy scheme on farm machinery & implements and farmers can avail this subsidy scheme. He also stressed that we all should make efforts so that no farmer in the Punjab state should burn the paddy straw as it causes adverse effect on soil health and will cause serious consequences for future generations. Dr. Kumar also gave detailed information about importance of paddy straw in feeding of dairy animals and to cut down the feeding cost. . They appreciated the effort of KVK for organising such programme. Live demonstration of different machinery was displayed in the event and literature related to residue burning was also distributed to the farmers. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Different government organization like Nestle and different companies viz. Bharat nutritional Ltd (Asses feeds), Cargill Pvt. Ltd., Tiwana feeds, Sheetal Feed and B. S. Gill Tractor exhibit their products to the farmers. Dr. S Gurdeep Singh, Assistant Professor also delivered lecture about scientific interventions for diease control and management in diary animals . Different experts from GADVASU, Ludhiana delivered lecture and treated cases related to medicinal and gynaecological fields and also handled various surgical cases related to lameness, fracture etc. Dr. Navjot Singh expressed vote of thanks at the end of the programme. Farmers visited KVK’s stall for purchasing the university books, mineral mixture, magnets, uromin licks and bypass fat. Village Sarpanch and farmers of the area thanked university and KVK for organizing District Level Camp on Crop Residue Management and Animal Welfare Camp in this border village of the district.
