Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences, University, Booh, Tarn Taran organized a one day Workshop on ‘Livestock and Fisheries Entrepreneurship development program to stimulate business enterprise for KVK Trained farmers’ on 19.07.2019 at its Campus. More than Fifty farmers belonging to different villages of district Tarn Taran has participated in the one day workshop. Scientific knowledge on various aspects of Pig farming, Dairy Farming and Fisheries was devised in this training so as to meet needs of budding entrepreneurs who are keen to start a sustainable business. This workshop assisted participants in acquiring the knowledge, skills and attitude for realizing their dream of becoming successful entrepreneurs. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran provided a brief insight about working and mandates of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, and encouraged farmers to boost their entrepreneurial development through Integrated Livestock and fisheries farming, Livestock production and management section. Dr. Kumar comprehensively discussed support services including livestock
-related technical skills and science-based information; and policy/strategies that engage the potential roles of all stakeholders (academic institutions apart from embedding entrepreneurship education in every department.
Dr S. Gurdeep Singh, also discussed about the role of Livestock entrepreneurship as a viable career option in the emerging interest of farmers to meet the growing demand of livestock products/commodity, need to provide strong science-based information to prepare for a career in food production systems. Dr Ch. Bhanu Prakash also delivered their expert talks and encouraged farmers to consider new venture creation and self-employment as valid career options.
Jaskirat Singh, District Development Manager, NABARD and NABARD Associate Gursharan were also present on the occasion and they explained about the mandate of NABARD as the Development Bank of the nation for fostering rural prosperity, the banking system in India, unique models of microfinance practiced in India, role of Bankers Institute for Rural Development and subsidiaries of NABARD, knowledge-driven activities relating to agriculture and rural development. Dr S. Gurdeep Singh proposed the vote of thanks at the valedictory function and thanked the farmers and visiting guest and faculty for the efforts to make this farmers awareness camp a success.
