Campaigning on Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization for In-situ Management of Crop Residue by KVK, Tarn Taran

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran organized a farmer-scientist interaction cum exhibition and awareness camp on management of crop residue on 03.07.2018 at KVK Campus and Village Mundapind, respectively.  At KVK, about 35 farmers of village Booh Havelian were attended this programme at KVK and they also gazed the happy seeder displayed at KVK. During this programme a group discussion on crop residue management especially paddy straw was made by KVK experts and farmers of said village. Dr. Balwinder Kumar (Deputy Director, Training) welcomed all the participants and thanked them for their active participation. Dr. Kumar appealed the farmers to make a commitment to avoid residue burning this year. He also enlightened various proposed activities like trainings, awareness camps, kisan mela, farmer scientist interface etc. during this project (In-situ Management of Crop Residue) would be conducted.  Besides, Dr. Kumar fascinated the farmers/villagers to coordinate and cooperate during these events so that this village will be residue burning free. S. Navjot Singh Brar (Assistant Professor, Agronomy) discussed the various side effects of residue burning on environment. He also shared his views regarding paddy straw management. Similarly in another programme at Mundapind, Dr Balwinder Kumar addressed about 20 farmers on the issue of paddy straw burning and suggested to incorporate it in the soil to get a better soil health and crop sustainability. Dr Navjot demonstrated the functioning of Happy seeder to the farmers. On 12.07.2018 programmes on residue management were also conducted at Chohla Sahib and Rahal Chahal, where interaction was made with 48 farmers on strategies to manage paddy straw In-situ. As a whole, in this week interaction with 103 farmers were made on the aspect of residue management.
