Guru Angad Dev Vet Varsity oragnised Pashu Palan Mela at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran

On the occasion of foundation stone ceremony of ‘Regional Research and Training Centre for Neeli Ravi Buffaloes’ of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana at Village Booh of district Tarn Taran, Guru Angad Dev Vet Varsity organised a state level Pashu Palan Mela at KVK Tarn Taran on June 25th 2018. The programme was witnessed by a huge gathering of farmers, rural youths and farm women (>3000) along with the participation of many officials belonging to state Govt., private sector, line departments, etc.

S. Balbir Singh Sidhu, Cabinet Minister (Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Dairy and Labour Department), Govt. Of Punjab was chief guest of the programme. Beside that Dr AS Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU, Ludhiana; Dr HK Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU; Dr JPS Gill, Director Research, GADVASU; S. Harminder Singh Gill, MLA Patti; Dr Dharamvir Agnihotri, MLA Tarn Taran; S. Sukhpal Singh Bhullar, MLA Khemkaran; Sh. Pradeep K Sabharbal, Deputy Commissioner Tarn Taran; Sh. Sandeep Rishi, ADC, Tarn Taran; Sh. Surinder Singh, SDM, Patti; Director Animal Husbandry, Punjab; Director Punjab Dairy Development Board and many other officials from line departments also graced the occasion by participating in the event.  Officials from Guru Angad Dev Vet Varsity, Punjab Agricultural University and line Departments viz. Agriculture, Horticulture, ATMA, FASC PAU (Tarn Taran), Seed Farm PAU, Usma, Animal Husbandry, Punjab Dairy Development Board, Forest Department, Health Department, IFFCO, NFL, Verka, Bank, etc. have also participated in the programme and put exhibition. Private companies related to Animal & Veterinary Sciences and Agriculture displayed their products and technologies in the exhibition stalls during the event.

Balbir Singh Sidhu, Cabinet Minister, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Dairy and Labour Department laid down the foundation stone of ‘Regional Research and Training Centre for Neeli Ravi Buffaloes’ of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana at Village Booh of district Tarn Taran of Punjab. Cabinet Minister also inaugurated Seed Shop at Krishi Vigyan Kendra operational under university at Booh, Tarn Taran, where university and KVK products i.e. mineral mixture, bypass fat, uromin lick, etc. and literature will be sold to the farmers.

On this occasion, Dr AS Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana emphasized that buffalo is well adapted to the local climatic conditions and resistant to various diseases and parasites. Murrah and Nili Ravi are two important breed of buffaloes reared in Punjab. This Centre will mainly focus on Nili Ravi breed. There is ample scope to supply superior germplasm of buffaloes to adjoining states.

Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director, KVK, Tarn Taran welcome all the farmers, officials and companies for their participation in the event. Dr Kumar, brought the Chief guest along with other dignitaries to the demo units of the KVK and explained in detail about Azolla, vermicompost, Apiary units in the KVK premises. He also presented the work and achievements of KVK to the Chief Guest and dignitaries. Dr Kumar also elaborated the steps undertaken by KVK in residue management at farmers’ field and assured that KVK will work with full enthusiasm in future for guiding farmers in residue management.

Dr. Harish Kumar Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU elaborated the plan of project and its step wise implementation. Dr Verma highlighted that RRTC will benefit the farmers of the locality by providing technical guidance in every aspect including supply of superior germplasm for imparting competitive edge to the existing farm. Dr JPS Gill, Director Research, GADVASU, Dr Dharamvir Agnihotri MLA Tarn Taran, S. Sukhpal Singh Bhullar, MLA Khemkaran, S. Harminder Singh Gill, MLA Patti, Deputy Commissioner Tarn Taran,  Director Animal Husbandry, Punjab, Director Punjab Dairy Development Board and many other officials from line departments also graced the occasion by participating in the event.

A fodder calendar prepared by Dr Balwinder Kumar, Najot Singh Brar and Dr HK Verma was also released by Chief Guest and other dignitaries during the event.

At the end of the programme, Dr JPS Gill, Director of Research, GADVASU, Ludhiana thanked Chief Guest, other dignitaries and media person.
