Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Anim al Sciences University, Booh, Tarn Taran organized a one week ‘Off-Campus’ vocational training programme on “Scientific Goat Farming and Fodder Production” at village Dhunda from 29th January to 05th February 2018. The training was sponsored under the RKVY-09 scheme being run in GADVASU, Ludhiana. Forty farmers belonging to SC community of village Dhunda participated in this training programme. Scientific knowledge on various aspects of goat farming and fodder production was devised in this training for skill development and self entrepreneurship of farmers for economic upliftment.
Speaking on the inaugural session of the training programme, Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training) Krishi Vigyan Kendra cum course Director, stressed upon the development of skill of the underprivileged categories in the rural population of the Tarn Taran district. Such type of trainings helps farmers, farm women, and rural youth in developing the agricultural entrepreneurship through livestock diversification and overall economic development of poor farmers. Dr. Balwinder Kumar also highlighted various facilities developed by GADVASU and KVK. Course highlights included the lectures from experts and practical training through exposure visit to the University Goat Farm at GADVASU, Ludhiana. Dr. H K Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana also interacted with the farmers and stressed upon adoption of goat farming for better livelihood. Scientists from GADVASU, Ludhiana, Dr. Sandeep Kaswan, Dr Amit Sharma and Dr Sikh Tejinder Singh, told the farmers about the goat breeds, their housing and disease management and feed requirement. S. Navjot Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) provided technical guidance on various aspects of fodder production and silage making. Similarly, experts from also delivered their lectures on assigned topics and discussed different aspects related goat farming and value addition. Literature related to goat farming developed by Directorate of Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana was also provided to the farmers.
Sarpanch and member panchayat of village Dhunda appreciated the efforts of KVK for providing them training related to goat farming. Dr Anil Kumar proposed the vote of thanks at the valedictory function and thanked the trainees and visiting guest and faculty for the efforts to make this Off-Campus training programme a success.
