Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Tarn Taran, Punjab organised Kisan Sammelan on Sankalp se Sidhi (New India Movement)on 30.08.2017 at Grain Market, Harike Pattan. The programme was witnessed by large gathering of different stakeholders (farmers, rural youth, farm women, state govt. officials, companies, etc.). Dr AS Nanda, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU was chief guest of the programme. S.Gurchet Singh Bhullar, Ex Irrigation Minister, Punjab was ‘Guest of Honour’ for the event. Other dignitaries viz. Dr HK Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana, Deputy Directors (Horticulture, Punjab Dairy Development Board Tarn Taran, KVK Mohali), Agricultural Officer (Chohla Sahib), etc. were also present in the programme. Sarpanch of different villages viz. Jindawala, Harike, Booh, Algo Khurd, Kirtowal, Jauneke, etc. also participated in the event. University departments viz. Fisheries, Livestock Product and Technology, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Animal Nutrition; line departments viz. Punjab Dairy Development Board, Horticulture, FASS Tarn Taran, KVK Barnala, KVK Mohali, etc. put their exhibition in the Sammelan. Companies related to Veterinary medicine and Agriculture such as VIRBAC, Buyer, Ashish Feed, Adama India, Dhanuka, IPL, BS Gill Tractors, Mahindra Tractors, Verka Cooperative, National Fertilizer Limited, Self Help Groups has also displayed their products in exhibition.
The programme was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, GADVASU, Ludhiana. Speaking in inaugural address Dr Balwinder, Deputy Director (T), KVK Booh, Tarn Taran highlighted the importance of the programme and emphasised that Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India has planned to organize Sankalp Se Sidhi programme to pledge for clean India, corruption free India…..etc. at all KVKs in India. In this regard, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran has also organizing this programme today. The Kisan Sammelan mainly focused on doubling the income of the farmers’ by 2022. Dr Kumar assured farmers that this programme will surely benefits the farmers/visitors of the district Tarn Taran and the surrounding areas, who want to strengthen the farming system in the District. Dr HK Verma discussed the facilities available with GADVASU and discussed the key point to double the income of the farmer.
Dr AS Nanda, Vice Chancellor emphasised that rice-wheat yields are reached at stagnation and it is very difficult to enhance their productivity further. So, without adopting allied/ subsidiaries activities, it is not possible to raise the income levels two fold. S. Gurchet Bhullar, Ex Hon’ble Irrigation Minister, Punjab told that farmers cannot enhance their income to double without Scientists’ assistance and they have to take proper guidance from agricultural experts at every management steps of the crop and other enterprises. Other experts from PAU, GADVASU, KVK and in line departments also discussed on key points to double the farmers’ income.
During the programme a pledge was taken to make India clean, corruption free, poverty free, terrorism free, communalism free, casteism free and let us also pledge for doubling agriculture income by 2022. The pledge was read by Dr HK Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana. All the dignitaries on the dias and farmers stood from their respective seats and took oath on above points. The kisan film on Sankalp se sidhi was also screened during the event.
The occasion was graced by delivering ‘vote of thanks’ at the end of the programme by Deputy Director (T), Booh, Tarn Taran. Dr Kumar thanked all the dignitaries, university officials, companies, line departments for their active participation and making this programme a grand success.
