Vocational Training Programme on Integrated Fish and Goat Farming for self employment held at KVK

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, GADVASU, Booh, Tarn Taran organized a six days vocational ‘Integrated Fish and Goat Farming for self employment’ from 25.04.2017 – 03.05.2017 at its Campus. Forty four farmers (15 male and 29 female) belonging to BC and SC category of seven villages viz. Mari Kamboke, Mari Megha, Rajoke, Bhail Dhaiwal, Booh Hathar, Pahalwanke and Ratta Gudda has been participated in the training course. Scientific knowledge on various aspects of goat and fish farming was devised in this training for skill development and self entrepreneurship of farmers for economic upliftment.

Speaking on the inaugural session of the training programme, Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, stressed upon the development of skill of the underprivileged categories in the rural population of the Tarn Taran. Such type of trainings helps farmers, farm women, and rural youth in developing the agricultural entrepreneurship through livestock diversification and overall economic development of poor farmers. Dr. Balwinder Kumar also highlighted various facilities developed by GADVASU and KVK. Course highlights included the lectures from different experts. The broader topic covered in the training course include preparation of fish pond, water quality parameters in fish pond, feed management for fish, different species of fish, construction of goat shed, goat species, fodder/feed management for goats, marketing of fish and goat, value addition of fish and goat products, integration of fish and goat enterprises, etc.  Dr. H K Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana was the Chief Guest of the Valedictory programme. Dr Verma interacted with the farmers and stressed upon adoption of goat and fish farming for better livelihood. He also boosts up participants for initiating above enterprises units, so that maximum returns may be obtained in addition to agriculture. Dr Verma also distributed the certificate the to the participants.

Dr SS Hassan and Dr Shashi Pal (Course Coordinators) proposed the vote of thanks at the valedictory function and thanked the trainees and visiting guest and faculty for the efforts to make this training programme a success.
